A few years back, Joey Bolohan and Matthew Ashrafi were finishing lunch at a restaurant when a used cooking oil hauler pulled up out back. The restaurant’s manager was arguing with the driver — the company hadn’t been out in three weeks, the oil was overflowing, and a health inspector had already shown up and threatened a fine. The manager was furious. The driver shrugged. That was the moment.

That was the moment we realized this industry was broken. Joey and Matthew are tech founders. They had spent the previous decade building software companies — clean interfaces, real workflows, software designed around the people who actually use it. And here was a dirty, oily industry still running on missed pickups, lost paper tickets, and handshake deals from thirty years ago. There had to be a better way.

So they got to work. Every customer gets a mobile app to request pickups, a portal where their digital CDFA-compliant manifests live, and a customer service team that actually answers the phone. We launched with a single mission: make the used cooking oil recycling experience as good as the best software you use.

Yes. Every pickup generates a digital CDFA-compliant manifest that documents the date, time, volume, driver, vehicle, and destination biorefinery — meeting California Code of Regulations Title 3 Section 1180. Every hauler in the Oil Guyz network holds an active CDFA Inedible Kitchen Grease transporter license and full commercial and pollution insurance, so the chain of custody stays intact from your kitchen to the final biorefinery. Records are retained for seven years and available in your Oil Guyz portal anytime. When a health inspector or auditor asks for records, you pull them from your dashboard in seconds. Oil Guyz launched in 2026. We are newer to this industry, but our founders, Joey Bolohan and Matthew Ashrafi, are not new to building.
